NOVEMBER 2018
BOSTON HIGHLIGHTS
Having recently concluded our 13th Annual CMHC, hundreds of attendees gathered in Boston for the largest multidisciplinary conference focused solely on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of cardiometabolic disease. The event offered three and a half days of advanced clinical education to hundreds of healthcare practitioners and professionals: all of whom attended sessions that addressed the most critical, acute issues in cardiometabolic care.
Keynote presenter C. Ronald Kahn, MD delivered keynote lecture “New Dimensions in Insulin Action and Why They Are Important to Know.” Best known for his work with insulin receptors and insulin resistance in diabetes & obesity, Dr. Kahn serves as Chief Academic Officer at Joslin Diabetes Center, the Mary K. Iacocca Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. In the spirit of delivering new clinical information through a variety of innovative formats, Dr. Kahn discussed recently emerging research findings, including the importance of the discovery of insulin in the history of medicine, the discovery of new hormones—including human-like hormones in viruses—which could play a role in disease pathogenesis, and an illustration of the discovery of new insulin actions: including effects in the brain on mood & behavior.
