This year’s CMHC West event will include a unique one-day session focused on female cardiometabolic care, taking place on the third day of the conference. Based upon the workshop's enormous popularity in Boston, the one-day symposium will explore the distinct challenges faced by women in cardiometabolic health. Planned and chaired by Pamela Morris, MD—expert on female cardiovascular risk and co-director of the Women’s Heart Care Program at the Medical University of South Carolina—the CMHC West Women's Health Summit: Navigating Female Cardiometabolic Care is a unique, exclusive opportunity for attendees to understand, internalize, and summarize specific risk factors & optimal approaches to managing cardiometabolic health in women.

A recent study has found that the majority of cardiologists lack current, up-to-date education surrounding nutrition and diet. A report published by the American Journal of Medicine—authored by a dozen healthcare professionals in the United States and Spain, and titled “A Deficiency of Nutrition Education and Practice in Cardiology”—details that less than a third of cardiologists describe their nutrition knowledge as “mostly up to date” or better.

CASE CHALLENGE
A 52-year-old woman who was diagnosed with T2DM in 2001 is seen in consultation to improve glucose control. She has no hypoglycemic symptoms and her finger stick glucoses are 132-187 mg/dl AC and 156-398 mg/dl hs. She is frustrated by weight gain (17 lbs in past 11 months) and acknowledges stress eating due to financial concerns. She mentions that she is “too busy” to exercise and per her husband she snores and wakes up tired. She has previously declined a sleep study since she is “sure she doesn’t have sleep apnea"….
